SAARC was founded in Dhaka, Bangladesh and the First SAARC Summit was held

2nd SAARC Summit in Bangalore, India
The SAARC Secretariat is established in Kathmandu, Nepal
3rd SAARC Summit in Kathmandu, Nepal. The SAARC Regional Convention on Suppression of Terrorism and an agreement to establish a South Asian Food Reserve were signed.
4th SAARC Summit in Islamabad, Pakistan. The idea of holding ‘South Asian Food festivals’ and the first on to be held in India
5th SAARC Summit in Male, Maldives. The leaders signed the SAARC Convention on Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, launched the Special SAARC Travel Document (providing visa-exemptions for national judges, parliamentarians and academics and their immediate families), launched a Scheme for the Promotion of Organised Tourism.
6th SAARC Summit in Colombo
Agreement on SAARC Preferential Trading Agreement was signed. This came into operation in 1995.
6 SAARC Summits took place in Dhaka, New Delhi, Male, Colombo, Kathmandu and Islamabad.
13th SAARC Summit was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh
South Asia Free Trade Area Agreement (SAFTA) was signed and it came into force on 1st January 2006.
14th SAARC Summit in New Delhi India. Afghanistan officially joined SAARC as its 8th member and the SAARC Agenda for culture was launched
15th SAARC Summit held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. A major point of discussion was the global food crisis. A meeting of the Agriculture Ministers of the SAARC Member States was decided to be held in New Delhi, India in November 2008.
16th SAARC Summit in Thimpu, Bhutan. Climate change was the central issue of the summit with summit’s theme “Towards a Green and Happy South Asia”.
17th SAARC Summit in Addu City, Maldives. In this Meeting, the Foreign Ministers of the respective Member States signed four agreements: SAARC Agreement on Rapid Response to Natural Disasters SAARC Agreement on Multilateral Arrangement on Recognition of Conformity Assessment SAARC Agreement on Implementation of Regional Standards SAARC Seed Bank Agreement
18th SAARC Summit held in Kathmandu, Nepal. The motto was ‘Deeper Integration for Peace and Prosperity’. India mooted the idea of launching a satellite to serve the needs of SAARC members. The South Asia satellite was launched on 5th May 2017.
The 19th SAARC Summit to be held in Pakistan was cancelled due to countries pulling out of it.
